Lesson 1 began "in the beginning" with Creation. In the first lesson we focussed on God's amazing power during the seven days of creation found in Genesis chapter 1. Children discovered what God created on which day and how his creation helps us to learn about the majesty and holiness of the Creator. Genesis 1 and 2 outline our heritage as human beings and God's perfectly designed creation. God's creation was a wonderful, orderly series of designed acts. There was order and beauty in God's creation, both individually and how the parts of creation are all connected and are dependent upon each other. Man is such an important part of the creation process. God created man in his own image! What a marvelous description! Lesson 2 is "The Fall-Part 1: Adam and Eve; and Sin." Focus will be on God's creation of man, called Adam and Eve, and how sin first came into the world, found in Genesis chapters 2-3. Children will discover that we were created to have a close relationship with God. Through Adam and Eve, God gave us the freedom to choose - obedience to God and a relationship with him, or disobedience which is sin. Children will learn that all people are responsible for their choices and every sin has a consequence. Lesson 3 is "The Fall-Part 2: Cain and Abel." In general, Bible leaders are divided whether this event in the Bible is appropriate for some children. But God has a lot to teach through the scripture. We will focus on Cain's sacrifice; how he felt about Abel's sacrifice; and Cain's lost relationship with God. Children will learn how this is like sin in our lives and how we should deal with it before it (sin/anger) becomes an action. |

Our children study the Old Testament one year during Sunday School, and the New Testament the next year. To prepare children for their study of the Old Testament this year, they will spend the weeks of August 10, 17, 24, and 31 in "training." Children will learn WHO God is, WHAT the Bible is, WHERE Bible events took place, and WHEN Bible events happened. The Student Book is for home review of the Basic Training lessons. After each lesson is a page for children to complete and take back to show their teacher. Parents are encouraged to go over the lesson with their child and help with the memory verse and activity. A suggestion for prayer is also listed. Talk about faith at home, and listen while your child prays to help them develop their own relationship with God. |
